Procedure (35-45 minutes)
-I will start the lesson by telling students that I travelled from Jordan to Istanbul a month ago. Then I will start showing them pictures of some actions that I do every day in order to elicit some present simple sentences from them. Each picture contains a verb to help students yield a sentence. I will write the sentences on the board. I will write the sentences that has regular verbs on the left side, and those have irregular verbs on the right side of the WB. Then, I will clarify the meaning of the present simple using the timeline.
Then, I will tell Ss that yesterday I did the same things in order to allow them change these sentences into the simple past. I will try to elicit the past tense from Ss and write them on the board. After that I will clarify the meaning of the past simple using CCQs and the timeline. After that I will teach them the form of the simple past.
-I will give the instructions to the Ss. They have to work in groups to find out the past form of the verbs. I will give them pieces of papers that have the present and the past forms and they have to work that out. Then, Ss have to stick the answers on the board. Next, I will ask some Ss to use any of these verbs in the simple past.
-I will show the HO to the Ss and ask them to write the past simple form of these regular verbs. I will do an example with the WC. Ss work alone then check with a partner. Next, I will stick the answer key on the walls and Ss have to move to check their answers. After that, I will ask some of them to tell a sentence using the past simple of any of these verbs.
-Ss will listen to the CD and repeat after it. I will make drills chorally and individually for each verb. I will pause after each verb. Then, I will highlight the pronunciation of the "ed" ending of the verbs. I will try to elicit that from Ss. I will play the CD and the students tell me how it is pronounced. After eliciting "id", "d" and "t" I will write them on the board and ask Ss to stick each verb to the right "ed" ending.
-Ss will listen to the CD and repeat after it. I will make drills chorally and individually for each verb. I will pause after each verb. Then Ss play a short game. I will say a verb, then choose a student to tell me the past form of it. Then, the chosen Ss chooses another and tell him a verb in order to tell the psst form of it.( I might use a ball or any possible object in order to allow Ss to throw it to the person they select)
-I will ask Ss to look at the picture and ask some questions about it. like (Do you know this person? What does he ride? Why? )in order to create interest and set the context. Then I will ask them to fill in the gaps with past form of the verbs. I will do the first sentence with them. Ss work a lone first, then they check with a partner before I take the FB from the WC.
