Main Aims

  • To introduce and provide practice of functional language in the context of deciding what to do.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of what to do.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

1. T shares screen on Jamboard with pictures about day out. 2. Ss will observe each image displayed on the screen for a few seconds and then be asked to verbally identify the activities they see. They will have some moments to think before providing their responses. 3. 2-4 students will be nominated to share their interpretations for each image, encouraging them to provide reasoning for their answers. A brief whole-class discussion will follow each image to compare interpretations and explore different perspectives. No formal grouping or extended activities are planned for this task

Exposure (4-5 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

1. T shares screen on Google Form for gist task and explain the task 2. Ss will listen to an audio once and choose a title from the provided options in the Google Forms within a 4-minute time frame. 3. After they have finished, 2-3 students will be nominated to share their chosen title and reasoning behind their selection.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

1. T shares screen on Jamboard and explain the task 2. Ss will find the slide labelled with their name on it and for this task they will have to listen to the audio again and this time they will have to put in order the places mentioned about a day out. 3. After they are done T will conduct OCFB to see if there is any doubt and if they were able to get the correct answers.

Clarification (12-15 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Meaning 1. T shares screen on Jamboard and tell Ss to find the slide with their names labelled on. 2. Ss will listen again the audio and they will have to tickle the expressions they hear. 3. After they are done T will show Ss the text so it is easier for them to check their answers and have visual aid. 4. T starts CCQing to check appropriacy: -which phrase is more informal? -which phrase is more formal? 5. T shares screen on Google forms for Form task where they will have to read the sentences and choose the correct answer. We will do this task toguether. 7. Then Ss will listen to an audio and repeat to practice their pronunciation and intonation.

Controlled Practice (4-5 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

1. T shares screen on Google Forms for CP task and explain the task 2. Ss will have to read the sentences and choose the correct verb for each sentence. There will be 2 options per sentence and they will have 4 minutes to do the task. 3. After they are done T shows the answers and ask if there is any doubt.

Free Practice (8-9 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

1. T shares screen on Jamboard with 2 questions and explains the task 2. Ss will go to BOR for about 7min and will have to discuss with their peers both of the questions for them to practice speaking and use the TL. 3. The questions are: -What places do you know for a day out? -Where do you like to go on a day out? 4. T shares the questions via chatbox and ask them to take a picture of them or write them down and sends them to BOR. 5. After they are back conduct OCFB.
