Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

REVIEW places in a city or town -- ASK SS to name different types of shops, places, etc. SHOW photo of Colonial Williamsburg. GIVE directions to The Cheese Shop from the capitol building DIRECT SS to give directions to their apartment, school, work or famous place

READING 1 Test #1 (8-10 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

SS READ 2 advertisements about holiday homes and choose which is best for the Wilson family HO11C-1a SS work in PAIRS

Teach (15-20 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

PRE-TEACH directions vocabulary: See 11C-3 HO11C-3 (EX11.1 p. 152) SS work ALONE on HO

LISTENING 1 (8-10 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

SS LISTEN to CD3.36 HO11C-5 (Video 11)

Test 2 (13-15 minutes) • check SS comprehension of learning

HO11C-6a/b

Practice conversation 1 • SS become more familiarized with conversations involving directions

HO11C-9a SS complete HO and then practice giving directions to apartment, school, famous place, etc.
