Description

In this lesson students will learn about how to ask for a favor and respond to it. They start the lesson with a warm up activity where they describe pictures and say what favors the people are doing. Then they go on and make their lists of favors they might ask somebody. After that, they will listen to four conversations about people asking for and responding to favors and answer some exercises.Finally they will do a freer practice activity about asking for and responding to favors in a role-play.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (7-9 minutes) • To set lesson contextof the lesson, engage Ss and generate intereset

Set Ex 1,2 Pg &4 In pairs Ss look at four pictures and decide what favors the people in the pictures are doing for their friends, family or neighbors. T check answers with WC Ss ask and answers questions about favors and how they feel about them. Ss work together. Monitor and assist when needed. T get FBK from Ss

Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide listening for inferences and specific information about favors.

Set listening Ex,1. Ss listen and note down information for each conversation about relationship of the people, place and what the favor is. Ss listen to four conversation. T pauses after each one to give Ss time to answer. Ss peer check answers and T nominates Ss to get FBK. T checks if there were any problems with answers and plays the tracks again if needed. Ss listen again and note down how the person asked react to each requests. Ss peer check T gets FBK

Language Focus (12-15 minutes) • To provide clarification on meaning, form and pronunciation of the TL in the context of asking for favors

Step 1 :Requests. Elicit from Ss answers what three requests the people made in the previous conversations. Write them on the board. Ask Ss to work together and decide which of them is the most direct and which is the least direct. Elicit informal and formal request from Ss and write them on the WB. Elicit stress and pronunciation. Model and drill chorally and individually using back-chaining. Step 2 :responses. Give Ss Ho slips about different responses. Ask Ss to put the response in the suitable category, "granting and refusing favors" Ss peer check. Get FBK from Ss on the WB. Model and drill.

Semi-Controlled Practice (4-6 minutes) • To provide practice and concept check of the TL and prepare Ss for freer activity.

Give HO to Ss. Ss read the cues and write requests informally and formally. Ss write then practice requests with a partner. Ss peer check. T gets FBK from Ss and clarify any problems. Ss then work with another partner and ask for and respond to requests. T monitors and record any errors to deal with them later on the WB.

Freer Practice (4-5 minutes) • To provide fluency speaking of the TL about request and responses in the context of favors

Tell Ss to get the list of requests they made at the beginning of the lesson. Ask them to go round the class asking and responding to their classmates requests. T monitors and records any errors to deal with them later on the WB.
