Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of Personal possessions

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide gist listening practice using a text about questions and short answers in the context of Personal possessions
  • To provide practice of language used for making questions and giving answers in the context of Personal possessions

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T set the set the scene: T will share the screen and Ss will see the photo of two people buying things. T will move on to the next slide where students will read the following questions: What do you think they are doing? Why do you think they are doing it? What do you think they are buying?

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

T will screen share the task. Ss will have to complete a chart where they guess what items do the people on the photo have. Ss will listen to an audio and complete the chart with the actual items they have. Ss will be sent to breakout rooms to check answers. T will provide audio script for them to check. Ss will return to the main room and we will check all together.

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

T will explain the next activities for Ss: 1. Ss will join has got and have got with its respective personal pronouns. 2. Ss will have to complete the questions and answers using have, has, haven't or hasn't. Ss will be sent to break out rooms to check their answers and then T and S will discuss it together. 3. Ss will listen to the questions and answers and make a drill activity repeating questions and answers.

Productive Task(s) (18-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

T will share the screen and explain the next activity. Ss will work on their own, they will guess the items his or her partner has by putting a tick on said item, the Ss will write 5 questions using the TL. e..g have you got a car? Ss will be sent to BOR in pairs to ask the questions to his or her partner so they can figure out if they guessed right and put a tick in the partner answers column. Ss will be put with different partners so they can tell the new partner things the other partner have or not. Ss will return to the main room.

Feedback and Error Correction (8-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

T will ask Ss what they found out about their respective partners and what they found out about their partner's partner. Praise good use of useful expressions and give DEC on have got and personal possessions.
