Description

In this lesson students are going to learn about second conditional in the context of my dreams and hypothetical situations through PPP. After this lesson students might better be able to use second conditional sentences to talk about hypothetical situations in present and future. The lesson will be finished with a speaking task with this question: If you could speak any language perfectly, which would you choose?

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of students' dreams and imaginations

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

In this stage I will talk about hypothetical situations i would like to be in. I will use some of the regular and irregular verbs that my students have got familiar with before. i write the sentences using second conditional grammar on the board.

Exposure (5-7 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

In this stage I will ask my students to answer this questions: If you had one month of free time, what would you do with it? they will talk about their imaginations

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

In this stage I will write some of the sentences that my students have made in the correct form on the board to draw their attention to the TL.

Clarification (12-15 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

I will elicit the structure from the students to clarify how to form the sentences. The regular and irregular verbs are mentioned in this stage. The past simple verbs that might be difficult for the students to pronounce will be drilled in the class.(had,won,learnt)/ i will explain where to use comma and changing the order of clauses/ contractions(would not)/pronuciation of were and was /how to use was and were in spoken and writing English/ negative form of sentences in 2nd conditional grammar/ ask SS difference between 1st and 2nd conditional...i also ask students some CCQs. "Do we use base form of a verb after would or infinitive with to?"..." Do we use a comma after the if clause or the main clause?"..."Do we use was in formal or informal English?"

Controlled Practice (10-12 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

The students are going to do exercise A on page 143 in the grammar bank in 4 minutes. They will have 2 minutes to check their answers in pairs and then we will check the answers with the whole class.

Free Practice (10-13 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

I will ask my students to answer this questions: If you could speak any language perfectly, which would you choose? and after that share their opinions to the class in brief.
