Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Screen share my google slide presentation. 1. Tell Ss I have two pictures of two different festivals. Can anyone guess where these festivals take place? 1st picture is from Spain- La Tomatina 2nd picture is from Mongolia--Naadam Ask Ss, Have you ever been to a festival? How many festivals have you been to? Where did they take place? After talking about students experiences with festivals let them know we are going to learn about an interesting festival.

1. I'll share a PDF form in the chat box of ex. 1a in the course book (photos of the Songkran festival in Thailand). 2. Ask Ss the following questions from google slides. 1. Where do you think the festival is taking place? Answer: Thailand April 13-16- hottest time of the year 2. What could the origins be? Answers: large-scale street party with lots of water 4. What advice would you give to the visitors? Answer: Book hotel in advance, don't try to take public transportation into the center, respect religious customs, be careful with valuables (phones cameras) everything gets wet, and don't forget to bring a bucket of water pistol. 3. Play audio file 11.5 for students to listen to see if they guessed correctly. Ask Ss to take notes to answer the questions

Useful/ Preparation Language (5-6 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks. Prepare students regardingthe language needed for the task.

Use example 4a from course book to give students language they can use to do the speaking task. Give them 4 phrases to express themselves about a festival. (Meaning) -Informal constructions- 1. No way will I ... = He/she will/ will not -- ever forget this experience 2. Never in a million years... =He/she didn't imagine this happening to them-- could I imagine having so much fun. 3. The thing... = something-- you absolutely can't forget is your camera. 4. What... = something that-- makes it really amazing is the friendly atmosphere. (Form) [1-2] negative adverb+ auxiliary verb+ subject+ main verb [3-4] What/all, it & the + place/person/way/thing + relative clause (Pronunciation) stress is usually on the verb or adjective. (Appropriacy) informal language

Productive Task(s) (18-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Tell students we will now practice the expressions we learned. In pairs, the students have a short conversation using the learned expressions. Round 1: Use the learned expression "No way... + verb+ subject+ main verb" to talk about a festival they've been too. Round 2: Use the learned expression "What... +place/person/way/thing+ relative clause" to describe something about the festival. Round 3: Use the the learned expression "Never in a million years... +verb+ subject+ main verb" to talk about something they never imagined would happen. After each round, do OCFB to share what they discovered about the festivals their partner attended.

Feedback and Error Correction (5-6 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

Do OCFB with the class. Ask them if it was difficult to form expressions about the festivals they've attended? Do some DEC with the class from expressions heard during the speaking procedure.
