Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide detailed reading practice using a text about exercising in the context of healthy routines
  • To provide gist reading practice using a text about exercising in the context of healthy routines

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide scan reading practice using a text about exercising by giving them titles to match with the paragraphs.
  • To provide detailed reading practice using a text about exercising and health completing comprehension parts of the article.
  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a group conversation in the context of sports an health

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Students are given titles of the paragraphs randomly. They read and share their ideas about what to expect from a paragraph of their title for instance what sort of vocabulary items, phrases, suggestions or facts they reckon.

Pre-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Vocab. practice will be done in the previous lesson therefore ss will revise the words by matching the sentences containing the target vocabulary with their paragraph. Answers will be checked as a whole class.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-11 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Students will read the text individually. They will find a suitable paragraph for their title and underline the keywords and the pieces of information related to their titles. Answers will checked as a whole class.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (10-11 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Students in pairs will complete the crossword puzzle. This exercise includes fill-in-the-blank statements requiring details from the text.

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Students will answer questions on a wheel for one minute in groups. They will time each other and if the person can't do it, they will try again for another question.
