Procedure (41 minutes)
On the board there are 8 attached verbs. Students must find these words in the text they have already read and write down two/three more words that are right after the verbs, eg. began to suspect. The students may not know the meaning of some words, so they will do an activity where they must match this verbs with their definitions.
The teacher hands out the sheets of paper with the text where they must fill in the gaps with the verbs from the previous task. They work in pairs. The teacher monitors the students and check if they are on the right track. Then the teacher gives them the answer key to check their answers.
The teacher model this activity. He tells the students the story but only the first part of the story. The students must ask the teacher the questions and try to guess what is the end of the story. The students work in pairs and think about the questions which can help them to guess the end of the story.
Students are going to work in pairs or in groups of three. They will be divided into group A and B. They will be given two different stories about mysterious deaths of the main characters. They will ask questions in order to get some details. After each five questions the stop and discuss what have they learned about this story. When one is ready to give the correct ending of the story groups swap their roles.
The teacher divides the class into pairs and he writes on the board the verbs which can help them to make up a story in past simple tense. When they are ready they tell each other their stories. He gives them 7 minutes on this activity. ICQs: Are you working along or in pairs? Are you going to tell your story to your group mates? How many minutes do you have?
