Listening Activity
Materials
Main Aims
-
Students will practice their listening skills by listening to a text about learning.
Subsidiary Aims
-
Identify different perspectives on learning: Students will listen to the text and identify various perspectives or approaches to learning presented by the speakers.
Procedure (40-50 minutes)
I will begin by asking 3 questions: 1. What does learning mean to you? 2. Why is learning important? 3. What are the different ways people learn?
Introduce key vocabulary related to learning that students may encounter in the listening text. Write these words on the board and provide definitions or explanations as needed.
Play the audio recording or video clip related to learning.
Instruct students to listen carefully to the text. Encourage them to take notes on key points, unfamiliar vocabulary, and any questions or thoughts that come to mind.
Dive the class into groups and ask each group to select one perspective on learning from the text that they found particularly interesting or noteworthy, have each group prepare a brief presentation summarizing the chosen perspective and its significance. After each presentation, have a class discussion where students can reflect on the various perspectives shared by their peers. Encourage students to express their thoughts on which perspective resonated with them the most and why, fostering an appreciation for diverse viewpoints on learning.
