Description

In this lesson, students are going to review the practice of ''can'' with its positive, negative and question forms including short forms in term of ability. They will work on meaning, form and pronunciation. Students will also get to practice their speaking skills through the practice of some vocabulary related to hobbies and free time activities. Since all the activities will be done in pairs and groups, the learning will be done collaboratively.

Main Aims

  • Reviewing and practicing Grammar, the usage of can to talk about ability, so by the end of the lesson students will be better aware of how to use can to talk about their abilities.

Subsidiary Aims

  • Putting the usage of can into semi-controlled speaking practice to talk about abilities. They will also revise/learn vocabulary related to hobbies and free time activities

Procedure

warmer/lead in (5-7 minutes) • To engage the students and get them interested and to give them a clue about the context of the lesson

The teacher will stick some numbered pictures of different activities on the wall. Students then go around the classroom and make a list of these words. After feedback, the teacher will hand them sheets with correction then discuss together.

Highlight the target language (3-7 minutes) • To contexualize and introduce the target language while reviewing the meaning, the form, and the pronunciation.

The former procedure will be followed by an illustration of the ability to perform those already discussed activities using "can" or "cannot" making sure they fully understand the use and form. Some pronunciation practice may be needed as well

Controlled Practice (6-7 minutes) • o concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

In pairs students will have to do an exercise in which they need to find the mistake in every sentence, underline it, then correct it. students may be asked to mingle to check answers then feedback with the teacher. P.51

Free practice (5-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Ss talk in groups about themselves and what they can do. and what they can't do. Ss then change pairs and tell the new partners about their old partners. T. monitors and give delayed feedback.
