Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Greet students and ask: What is an earthquake? How do you think an earthquake originates? How can we protect ourselves from an earthquake? What objects would you take in the event of an earthquake?

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Introduce students to the short reading An earthquake, which consists of making known what they are and how they originate. When you finish reading, continue with the reading activity that consists of coloring the objects that are needed for an emergency kit.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Present the video called What is earthquake? Ask students to answer the following reflection questions: -What did you understand from the video? -Mention five words that the video mentions -Draw a drawing about what you understood from the video

While-Reading/Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Bring to the classroom a lottery of earthquakes and emergency objects that are related Divide the students into pairs. Instructions: It will be played online, four squares and horizontally. The object will be mentioned and the winning couple will have to say earthquake in English. Deliver one card per pair and chips. The first three winners will be given a piece of candy.

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Bring a short reading to the classroom, give it to students, and ask them to answer the questions based on the reading. When you finish, go on to respond on the board.
