In this lesson, students will master the past simple tense through various engaging activities. The lesson will begin with a brief review of the past simple structure and common irregular verbs. This will be followed by a series of interactive exercises including sentence formation, role-plays, and storytelling, allowing students to practice and solidify their understanding of the past simple in both affirmative and negative forms. The lesson aims to enhance the students’ ability to talk about past events with confidence.

Procedure (45 minutes)
Past Simple Exploration (45 minutes) • To introduce and practice the past simple tense with a focus on regular and irregular verbs.
Begin with a short presentation on the past simple tense, highlighting the difference between regular and irregular verbs. Conduct a guided discovery activity using a handout where students identify past simple verbs in a text. Move on to a controlled practice activity where students fill in the blanks in sentences with the correct past simple verb forms. Engage students in a pair work (PW) activity where they ask and answer questions about their last holiday using the past simple. Conclude with a freer practice where students write a short paragraph about a memorable event in their lives on the whiteboard (S-WB).
