Main Aims

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification of reported speech in the context of my last phone call

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-6 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I am going to start the class by talking about the issues that I've been facing during my birthday and the phone calls that my friend,my dad and I made. I use reported speech when expressing what we have said.

Exposure (6-8 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

now I ask the students about what my dad and my friend told me. I'll write our conversations on the board.

Highlighting (3-5 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

i will write some sentences on the board and ask the students to fill in the blanks. they will be prepared for learning how to make the target language by focusing on the questions.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

In this stage, I will explain the tips of how to make the reported speech. Then I'll clarify its meaning and formation by writing some direct sentences and changing them to the reported ones step by step.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

I will ask the students to turn to page 149 and do the exercises individually in a two-minute period of time then we will check the answers together.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

now I will ask the whole class to talk about the last phone call they've made.They must mention what they heard, who they talked to and what they said. They can either use the target language or not.
