Description

In this lesson, students are going to listen to an interview with Laurel Reece in which she gives tips on how to live more slowly.

Main Aims

  • To provide detailed listening practice using a text about Living more slowly in the context of Lifestyle

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a Conversation in the context of Their own lifestyle

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The teacher will talk about his experience in doing a task (like playing a song or doing calligraphy) and the difference between doing the task slowly or fast. Then the students are asked to give some examples for what are better done slower.

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

New vocabulary are explained through examples. Then the students will be going to make new examples for the new words. Tip - multitask - focus

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Before the first hearing, the students are going to look at the first three questions on page 37, exercise 5a. Then they are going to listen to the track 42 of CD 2. When the track is over, the students are going to answer the questions in groups of 3, minus the "example" part of each prompt. Then we will check the answers together.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

After the answers are checked, they are going to listen deeply to check the details of the track. Then they are asked to give examples to the first three prompts that they answered before. They will be asked to explain and support their examples.

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Students are asked to talk to eachother in groups of 3 about if there are any other tips or not, and to explain their reasoning.
