Description

In this lesson the students are learning some new words to expand their vocabularies on how to express their opinions about their favorite "movies and actors/books and characters". They'll learn how to read properly to fully understand the given text and paragraphs.

Main Aims

  • To provide detailed reading practice by using a text about favorite characters in the context of favorite movies and books

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification of the differences and advantages about liking either books or movies in the context of favorite movies and books

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The teacher would start talking about her most favorite characters in movies and books and why she likes them. She wants the students to talk about their own ideas about their favorite characters.

Pre-Reading/Listening (13-15 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

In this stage the teacher is going to teach the students some key vocabularies of the text by using pictures to help them learn better. The students are going to match the pictures with the paragraphs that talk about the difference between characters in movies and books.then they are going to check their answers in pairs and at the end with the whole class.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (2-3 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

The students should answer the question: "what is the writers opinion on differences between characters in movies and books?" They are given about 3 minutes to read the first paragraph and share the answers with the class.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (7-8 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

The students are going to read the text more deeply and answer some "" related to the text. They will check their answers in pairs and then with the whole class.

Post-Reading (5-6 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they learned

The students are going to be divided into groups of 3 and discuss the advantages of their own favorite characters and what they love about them.
