Elementary A2 level
Description
Materials
Main Aims
-
The main aim is to teach learners how to give advice using should and shouldn't.
Subsidiary Aims
-
The subaim is to let the Ss use the new language in different contexts while speaking in groups and whole class.
Procedure (26-43 minutes)
The T will show the class a picture of a person who has a toothache and will elicit the problem. is this person feeling alright? why? what is his/her problem? Then t will show tow other pics (one of dentist and one of a girl eating chocolate) to elicit the language. what does this person need to do? is it good for him to have chocolate? after eliciting should and shouldn't the teacher will focus on their pronunciation both weak and strong form. Then she will show some other pictures to elicit more examples from the Ss.
The T will show a table containing the key grammatical features of the lesson and will try to elicit the different form. As they might be familiar with some modals from previous TPs I don't think they may have any problems. T will use some elicitation Qs to get them say the rules. what is the negative form? how can we make y/n questions? some more examples form the Ss may help with more elicitation. what should we do to learn English better? where should we save our money? ........
The T will give them some HOs from the book. In this exercise they will practice the new language in different form to show if they can manipulate it in different ways such as negative and questions. Then they will come to the board and write the answers.
The teacher will give out the second HOs and ask them to match the questions with the statements. The answers will be checked on the board.
In this case the teacher will change the grouping and put the learners in male and female groups to play the roles of a girl friend and boy friend. This exercise is similar to the other exercise but here they should have their own ideas or they can simply use the ideas from the previous exercise.
There will be no hint form the previous exercises. The T will give them some cards each S will have a particular problem and the other must give her advice on what to do and what not to do.
By this point they have hopefully mastered the new form. If time permits the will do the exercises on the third HOs and will come to the board to check them as a class activity.
