Procedure (34-42 minutes)
Greeting Ask Ss to name some of the hard-working scientists they know. Note* Ss are also shown some pictures of great scientists.
Part A) Write the following words and phrases on the withe board and ask Ss to guess the topic: -goal -hard work -effort -gain something Part B) Teach the key words of the text through pictures and sample sentences shown on the powerpoint slide. (Invention, scientist, success, quit)
Part A) Ask Ss to read the text quickly and choose the best title from following items in pairs: -Edison, The great scientist -No pain, No gain -Hard lives, Hard gains Part B) Give Ss handout 1 to complete the timetable of Edison's life. Part C) Ask students to choose the best statement for each parahraph of the text. (handout 2) Part D) Ask students to guess the meaning of the phrase " what I'm after" in the text.
Ask students to say if they agree or disagree with general idea of the text answering to this question mentioning one reason: Do all people need to work hard to gain their goals? Ss will make two groups of "agree" and "disagree". The teacher will write each group reasons on the white board.
