Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (15-20 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T greets students. T shows them a picture of a monkey. T asks students what the picture is, what the monkey is eating, and general information about monkeys (elicitation). T shows them some flashcards with vocabulary: mama, doctor, monkey, jumping. T does some choral drilling. T elicits participation. T asks them what is happening in each flashcard. T asks them what the pictures have in common. Students talk in pairs or small groups about what is going on.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-17 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

T plays the song once and asks students "What is happening to the monkeys?" T does some gestures for students to get the song and shows them some pictures to have some visual aids. T shows the flashcards with the number of monkeys as the song is played. T listens to students' participation.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (20-30 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

T gives students some pictures that they need to put in order. Students listen to the song 2 or 3 times and number the pictures in order of events. (picture 1 = 5 monkeys jumping) (picture 2 = 1 fell off) (picture 3 = mom calling the doctor) and so on. T monitors students. Students check the answers in pairs.

Post-Reading/Listening (15-23 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

T gives learners a worksheet with pictures and numbers. Students need to count the number of monkeys and write it in English. T monitors the activity. T checks the answers with students.
