Description

In this lesson ST will learn to ask and express information about themselves such as their names, hometown, personalities, things they like etc. They will learn to use vocabulary and sentences to share this information.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of sharing personal information

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification of personal information in the context of names, countries, likes, dislikes, skills, birthdays etc.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Daily greeting is performed by JTE. Greeting is performed in English by ALT. T writes TL on board with answers blank. Demo activity with JTE. Ball is used to be tossed back and forth, each toss is a statement from the TL with ananswer. Example: JTE - I'm Yano Sensei (toss) ALT - I'm Marius Sensei (toss) JTE - I'm from Japan (toss) ALT - I'm from Trinidad (toss) JTE - What animal do you have? (toss) ALT - I have a dog. What animal do you have? (toss) JTE - I have a cat. (toss) ALT - I can paint (toss) JTE - I can surf (toss) etc. etc. etc.

Exposure of ST to TL (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

T writes out vocabulary in a box. T completes the sentences on the board with words from the vocabulary as a demo. T shows that they are choosing words from the vocabulary.

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

T uses ball, tossing it to the class at random, whoever catches it starts the first statement. T instructs ST to toss it to anyone else in class. Students pass ball to each other until all TL are said twice. Ask random students random questions from the TL. Answer any questions which arise regarding vocabulary or TL.

Productive Task (6-12 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

T provides class with Worksheets. T instructs class to complete the sentences using the vocabulary as demonstrated. T gives the students 5-6 minutes to complete this task. T uses a timer display on the board. After timer is done, T instructs ST to hand their Worksheets over to their friends at random. T chooses ST to read sentences from Worksheets, ST who the worksheet relates to raises their hands and claims their Worksheet. This is intended to build both reading skills and listening skills in each ST.

Feedback and Error Correction (3-5 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language
