Description

In this lesson, students learn to discuss about globalization process through different creative activities. They start with learning the new vocabulary related to the topic and watching the video. Throughout the lesson, creative content is offered to students to explore about globalization, which includes role-play activities and designing creative exercises on Edvibe.

Main Aims

  • To develop students` understanding of the globalization process and enhance their speaking skills.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To introduce with the new phrases on the topic and provide practice to solidify the new knowledge.

Procedure

Lead-In (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The lesson starts with warm-up questions to students: "How are you? Do you have any questions about the theme of the last lesson? What comes to your mind first when hearing the word "Globalization"? What do you think are the examples of globalization in our everyday lives?".

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of the task and highlight useful words and phrases

The teacher demonstrates the educational video about the process of globalization. The teacher explains that there is no universal definition of this concept and demonstrates some examples of globalization in life. The teacher shows different definitions on slides and lets students read them out loud.The teacher hands out the list of useful phrases on the topic.

Task (8-10 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

The teacher demonstrates the benefits and drawbacks of globalization on the screen. Students discuss the positives and negative of the process in groups. The teacher explains the role-play activity. Students are given different scenarios with hidden implications about the benefits and drawbacks of globalization. Students are split into groups of 3 and given the scenario. Students have 5 minutes to prepare for the presentation of the role-play.

Presenting the task (6-8 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to perform

Students perform their play in front of other groups and the latter students find the hidden meaning of the play. After each group performs, students are asked to provide some feedback and recommendations to each other. Meanwhile, the teacher assesses the students` understanding of the topic and writes down common grammar or lexical mistakes of students.

Report (6-8 minutes) • To allow students to report on how they did the task and how it went

Students are asked to write an anonymous feedback on the task and reflect their performances on the platform Edvibe. The teachers gives some examples of questions that students can think about while writing the feedback. These questions include:"What part of the lesson was the most interesting for you? What did you like about your performance? Did you find the task challenging? Can you provide recommendations to the teacher for future lessons?"

Language Analysis (6-8 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the task language

The teacher gives the feedback for the roleplay activity and explain the common lexical, pronunciation and grammar mistakes of students on the board. The teacher mentions the strongest sides of each group and encourages to continue using new phrases in the future lessons.

Language Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with practice of the task language

The teacher explains the homework for the next lesson. Students are asked to design creative content for the course on Edvibe related to the topic of Globalization. Students have one week to create different exercises and activities. In the next lesson, students exchange with their exercises to facilitate learning process.
