In this lesson students are going to listen to some people who speak about their phobias

Main Aims

  • To provide detailed listening practice using a text about phobias.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of phobias.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (7-10 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I am going to start the class by talking about some of my phobias then I am going to ask my students to share some of their phobias with the whole class.

Pre-Reading/Listening (6-8 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

I am going to teach the students some key vocabularies of the audio file by using their definitions and some pictures to help them learn better these key vocabularies are: 1-Phobia:It is a kind of feeling that people are usually afraid of something or they feel danger when they are close to it . The form of this word is noun. 2-Button-It is a sort of bead that it is usually sewn on clothes .the form is noun.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (6-10 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

The students will listen to audio file and try to answer the following questions: 1-What are they talking about ? 2-What are they afraid of ? The answers will be checked with the whole class. students will need to support their ideas if they come up with different answers.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (13-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

I will ask my students to read the questions on page 70 and then the audio file will be played again the students need to mark the sentences true or false they will have 3 minutes to check their answers in pairs then we will check the answers with the whole class . they will need to support their ideas if they come up with different answers. Some of these true or false questions are ? 1-Julia has had this phobia since she was 13 years old . 2-Julia"s phobia started when she lived in her house. 2-Chole hardly ever wear clothes that have buttons.

Post-Reading/Listening (13-16 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

I will ask my students the question: 1-Do you or anyone you know have phobia? When and how did it start? How does it affect your life or his\her life? Then they will discuss about it into different groups.
