Main Aims

  • To provide gist reading practice in the context of bedroom items.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide speaking with the focus on using TL (there is, there are) in the context of bedroom items.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T will show some pictures of the items and ask the Ss to recall their knowledge and review the names of the items. Then T will stick some picture on the WB and ask the Ss to write the names of the pictures that they can find in a bedroom in groups. Feedback: T will ask a volunteer of each group to share their responses and elicit.

Pre-Reading (3-5 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

T will ask the Ss to look at the picture in their books and talk about what items they can see using the TL in pairs. They will talk about the number of each item and the color and also the position of each item. (Picture Reading) Feedback: T will randomly ask some Ss to share their sentences to the WC. Note: There will be no vocab pre-teaching as they have already studied all.

While-Reading #1 (3-5 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

T will play the audio file and ask them to listen and circle each item they hear. Then check it with their partner.

While-Reading #2 (3-5 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

T will divide the text to 3 parts and ask the Ss to read in groups of 3. Each S will read one part. T will monitor and correct them if necessary. Then T will check the most common mistakes with the WC.

Post-Reading (5-8 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

T will show some pictures of different bedrooms and ask each group to talk about one of them and then change the partners to share with each other. Then T will ask Ss to talk about what they have in their own bedrooms in pairs. Feedback: T will monitor and collect the errors and write them on board then ask Ss to see if they can correct them.
