Description

In this lesson, students will learn how to use there is / there are and their negative form there isn't / there aren't in the context of your town. The lesson begins asking Ss to tell me 3 things they see in their room (there is / there are). This is followed by some useful vocabulary to talk about things they see in a town and a short text story (Google Docs) that will elicit Ss interest in the TL. This will prepare them to complete the first activity (Google Forms 1). Then, there's Language Clarification (MFP) There is/ There isn't There are/ There aren't. Finally, there's Controlled Practice where Ss complete a 2nd activity (Google Forms 2) and Freer Practice via role-play.

Main Aims

  • To provide grammar clarification and practice of there is / there are & there are/there aren't in the context of your town.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide deading practice for gist and speaking practice.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

1. I will ask students to tell me 3 things they see in the room they are. 2. I will model first, telling them 6 things I see in my living room using there is/ there are to introduce these expressions since the beginning. ICQ -> Now, it’s your turn. How many things you have to tell me you see in your room? 3 THINGS. 3. Nominate 2-3 students. (Ss) Tell me 3 things you see in the room you are.

Exposure (3-4 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

1. I will provide a (Google Docs) link with some useful vocabulary with pictures. I will only ask them to identify the words they don't know. I have CCQ's prepared for the vocabulary. 2. On that same link there's a short text that students have to read for gist. 3. I will give make sure the instruction is clear, they read individually and they will have 3 minutes to read. ICQ’s -> Do you have to answer anything here? Do you have to read? How many minutes do you have? You do this in pairs or individually?

Highlighting (4-5 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

1. I will give Ss a Google Forms Activity 1 link that they have to complete in pairs in the BORs in 3 minutes. 2. I will give them the instruction and do the first exercise to model. Clarification (10-12 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

1. I will give Ss a another Google Forms link with a 2nd activity. 2. Ss will work individually. 4 minutes 3. I will give Ss the instruction and do the first exercise with them to set the model. Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language
