Description

In this lesson students learn about past prefect through a talk about house robbery. it will be followed by a speaking task about what else can they guess that was taken.

Main Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of house robbery

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will start talking about my last trip which I came back and found out my house was robbed. then I describe what was taken and what happened.

Exposure (2-3 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

In this stage I ask my students to guess what else do they think that was taken.

Highlighting (2-3 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

I will write some of the sentences I used and some examples from my students sentences. and if some of them have made some wrong sentences I will write the correct past prefect form on the board.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

I will start eliciting the meaning by drawing a timeline on board and showing my students when this tense refers to and when its needed. the intonation will be focused on as well. I will also teach them the negative form.

Controlled Practice (10-12 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

The students are going to the exercise on page 149 individually and check in pairs. the answer will be checked with the whole class. they have 8 minutes.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

I introduce a game to students to guess the order of their partner’s actions yesterday or at the weekend. One student says two things they did and their partner has to make a true sentence, keeping the same order in the sentence as they were said in, like: When you had a shower, you had already finished breakfast or You had a shower and then you had breakfast.
