Procedure

Warm-up (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Each student reads a sentence that has a (verb + gerund) combination out loud.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Students start demonstrating the similar built of the sentences.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Students highlight the verbs that are followed by a (verb + ing = gerund)

Clarification (15-17 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

The verbs: start, stop, avoid, enjoy, keep, hate, miss, and mind; are followed by a gerund. Notice that these verbs are used in the suitable tense.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

students combine two verbs; one is the verb thats followed by a gerund, the other is the verb that we derive the gerund from.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

students answer an MCQs quiz on the grammar.

Free Practice (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

In pairs, students build sentences about daily situations using the verb + gerund combination.
