TP5 - Speaking (Fluency) Practice in the Context of Amazing Achievements

Description

In this lesson students practice and gain speaking fluency using new vocabulary to talk about amazing achievements.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide students the opportunity to practice and gain fluency in the use of vocabulary related to inspiring achievements.

Subsidiary Aims

  • Provide students with listening practice.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Point out examples on the screen and then ask students if they can give examples of each. Nominate students. Give personal example - Nadia Comaneci

Exposure (5-6 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

Tell students they will listen to a recording of people talking about achievements they admire. They will work on google slides to match the speaker to the achievement they will talk about. Conduct activity feedback - ask students which activity they think is most/least amazing.

Useful Language (6-7 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

Give students five phrases of useful language. Demonstrate and drill sentence stress.

Productive Task(s) (15-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Tell students they will talk about an achievement they find inspiring. They will have three minutes to prepare and then they will share with their classmates in breakout rooms. Their classmates will ask them questions at the end. If there is time they can repeat activity with a new group. Feedback and Error Correction (5-7 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

Ask students if anyone would like to volunteer and share the achievement they admire. Conduct DEC.
