In this lesson students are going o listen to a girl talking about her unsuccessful dating history in dating apps.

Main Aims

  • To provide detailed listening practice using a text about Dating in the context of Dating apps

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of choosing a partner

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (6-8 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The students will be asked if they are dating and about how they met. then we talk about online dating using social media network and can they be successful or not.

Pre-Reading/Listening (6-8 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

The students will be informed about the meaning of the following vocabularies used the text by trying match the meaning of the words with the vocabularies. they will check the answers with partners and then the whole class. Journalist- Swipe- Spark- Gentleman- Punctual- IT- Enthusiastic- Pings

While-Reading/Listening #1 (6-10 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

The students will listen to the track and try to answer the following questions: What kind of app does Elspbeth use? What is Elspbeth's mother going to do? What's Elspbeth going to do? The answers are going to check with whole class and they need to support their answers

While-Reading/Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Students will be asked to read the questions on page 9 part c and then the next audio file will be played. The students need to match the phrases to the two men. They will have 2 minutes to check their answers in pairs then we will check the answers with the whole class. Then 2 next audio files will be played for part d and e. they will need to support their ideas if they come up with different answers. The answers will be checked with whole class

Post-Reading/Listening (13-16 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Students will be asked to talk to each other in groups of 3 about questions in part f. Do you think a member of family could choose a date for you? Do you think you could choose one for them?
