Description

in this lesson students learn about past continuous through a talk about daily schedule. it will be followed by a speaking task about how students spend their day.

Main Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of daily routine

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will Write my typical schedule on the board with my usual everyday activities then I will give them examples of what I was doing exactly at a certain time yesterday

Exposure (6-7 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

I will ask students to tell me what I was doing and have them answer in second person singular then I ask the to write down their own daily schedules, or what they did yesterday, and then take turns first saying what they were doing at certain time.

Highlighting (2-3 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

I use main and student's schedules and make negative statements then model yes or no questions and wh questions

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

I will start eliciting the meaning by drawing a timeline on board and showing my students when this tense refers to and when its needed. the intonation will be focused on as well.

Controlled Practice (10-12 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

the students are going to the exercise on page 129 individually and check in pairs. the answer will be checked with the whole class. they have 8 minutes.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

I will give them photos in magazines to help with the past continuous. I would make it clear to students that they are to describe the event in the past and to work in pairs.
