Description

In this lesson the students are going to learn how to use past simple to talk about completed actions in the past through PPP in the context of Holiday. Speaking accuracy will be focused on as the productive skill.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will start the class by talking about how I spent my weekend.

Exposure (4-5 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

In this stage I will ask my students to tell me about the way they spent their weekend.

Highlighting (2-3 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

I will choose some of my students' sentences to write on the board in the correct past simple form.

Clarification (10-12 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

I will start eliciting the meaning by drawing a timeline on the board and asking my students to tell me whether the sentences are related to the present past or future and if the action is completed in the past. The form will be elicited as well by asking the students to tell me where and in what form I need to put the words in the sentence, Regular and Irregular verbs will be focused on here, The pronunciation of the words in the past form for the verbs like read and said will be covered as well,

Controlled Practice (10-15 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

The students are going to go to page 145 of the grammar bank. They will be given 5 minutes to do exercise 1a individually and then they will be given 2 minutes to check their answers in pairs. At the end the answers will be checked with the whole class.

Free Practice (10-13 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

The students are going to talk about their last holiday in groups of four in 10 minutes. They will be monitored and feedback will be given to the whole class at the end.
