  • To provide review and practice of Simple past in the context of last holiday

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (4-6 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students through a simple listening passage

The photos of the teacher's last holiday will be put on the board. A listening passage about the teacher's last holiday corresponding photos is then read. Following that, the gap-fill HO, the same passage with missing verbs, are given out. Ss are asked to put the correct form of the verbs from the box above the text into the blanks. After 2 or 3 minutes, the answers are checked as w/c FB.

Exposure (3-5 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through prompts in the question chart

The Ss are asked to ask questions about the story of the holiday in Paris using the prompts in the first question chart. The question chart HO's are given out. The Ss are put into pairs to make the complete questions. Then the w/c FB is taken.

Productive Task (18-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

The question chart-You HO's are given out and Ss are given some time to think individually about their last holiday. They are told to take notes like the answers in the question chart-Abas HO's. Afterward, the question chart 1, 2, 3 are given out and Ss are asked to stand up and ask the questions on the question charts from 3 Ss and take notes of their answers. They are also told to put the name of the S they are interviewing on the top.

Feedback and Error Correction (6-8 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

The Ss report back the holiday of one of the students they talked to as a w/c FB. The other Ss try to guess whose holiday that was. Errors in using simple past will be corrected at this point.

Productive Task-writing (9-11 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills-writing

If time, depending on how long the previous stage will take, Ss can write about the second Ss they talked to and then read their writing aloud. Again the other Ss guess whose holiday it was.
