Main Aims

  • To provide detailed reading practice using a text about athletes in the context of sports

Procedure

warmer (4-6 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I'll start to talk about my favorite sports and the amount of time I `repeatedly devote on doing workouts. I also add a reason for choosing that sport among others; then I'll ask them to share their habitual activities related to sports.

Pre-Reading • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

In this stage I'll show some pictures presenting the new vocabularies of the text and lead the students to find the meaning of some new words by using the pre-arranged pictures. The students will cooperate as well.

While Reading/Listening #1 (2-3 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening task

The students are going to answer the question: Does the first writer agree that women's sports are as popular as men's? They are given about 3 minutes to read the first paragraph and share their ideas with the class.

While Reading/Listening #2 (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed,deduction and inference reading/listening tasksw

This time the students are going to read the whole text and after that they will answer some questions related to the text. the answers will be checked at the end.

Post-Reading (8-8 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

The students will be divided into 4 groups and asked to share their ideas about the benefits of regular exercise on the human body and mental health.
