Description

In this lesson students practice time secquencers through guided discovery based on a reading text about Hannah and Jamie. The lesson starts with a short discussion about pictures and the name of the text. This is followed by reading the story where students are supposed to fill in the gaps by time secquencers, post reading questions. Finally there is some controlled practice trough re-telling story.

Main Aims

  • To provide detailed and deduction reading practice using a text about a life story of Hannah who met Jamie

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice of time sequencers in the context of life story
  • Speaking practice through story re-telling

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will start the lesson with warm-up questions about the title of the unit. Also a couple of questions about the pictures on the top of the page.Teacher will ask students to guess what the story is about.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

Teacher asks students to look at the text and focuses attention on the words/irregular verbs that may cause troubles with understanding. After that Students are supposed to read the text within 3 minutes. Then teacher asks students to open LMS and fill in the gaps in the text by using the right time sequencer from the interactive boxes.

Useful Language (10-15 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

Teacher distributes a short test with questions related to the story and ask students to choose the right answer. All questions ae multiple choice questions.The students are allowed to open the books and find answers in the text. Teacher checks the answers. After that students are supposed to work on verb phrases though the interactive exercise on LMs.

Productive Task(s) (15-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Finally teacher divides the class in 2 groups/ distributes the pictures taken from the top of the page.18 and asks students to re-tell the story by using Past Simple/time sequencers/verb phrases. Group A: as they were Jamie Group B: as they were Hannah Each participant has to take part in story production .

Feedback and Error Correction (3-3 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language
