Main Aims

  • To provide review of language used for getting to know boarding procedures in the context of aviation for flight attendants

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice of informal and formal introductions in the context of pre-flight duties

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (8-10 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students in the concept of pre-flight briefings

1. Sts are asked what they remember about the pre-flight briefing- what it is, the purpose of it. 2. From the OUP book, page 15 listening exercises 7,8, 9 and 10, on which different boarding scenarios are given, are covered.

Controlled Practice (10-12 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice with extra listening

Students are asked to open Heinle book page 8 for further listening practice. In that listening, students are expected to diagnose two problems that may occur while boarding and think about the solution and discuss the solution provided in the material. Following this activity, students are asked to go to page 16 in OUP book and do exercises 12-13-14. For exercise 12, I use the link below for the matching activity: https://www.educaplay.com/learning-resources/14144177-areas_on_an_aircraft.html For exercise 14 the link below will be used to do the activity on Quizzes.com https://quizizz.com/join/quiz/63d3b667c183d3001d4a0bd8/start?studentShare=true

Semi-Controlled Practice (5-8 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

before continuing with free practice activity, students are asked to go to page 9 in Heinle and study checking and clarifying language.

Free Practice (10-15 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

sts will be asked to make groups of 4 so that each of them can take roles of flight attendant, senior crew member, first officer and captain and/or passengers and act out scenarios of boarding problems that may occur and everybody comment on each other's performances.
