Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Look at the pictures. 1. Compare the people and the situations in the pictures to the ones in your town. 2. Match the pictures to the descriptions below. Write the letters in the circles.

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Have students discuss the first introductory question. Ask: Can you see any of these things in our town? Which ones? Which things have you never seen?

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Play the audio. Have students listen and repeat the sentences. a Ask: Do the sentences describe what is happening now or sometime in the past? How do you know?

While-Reading/Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Then have students match the sentences with the pictures. Make sure they write the letter for each sentence in one of the circles. Discuss answers as a class.

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Play the audio for the model conversations. Students listen and repeat. a Have students ask and answer questions in pairs about the people in the pictures, being sure to switch roles.
