Description

In this lesson, students learn about the things they have in common with their peers by talking about things they like and things they don’t like. The lesson starts with a discussion about things we like and things we don’t like. This is followed by reading a conversation text where students read for gist and learn what kind of video games the characters from the conversation like, the ones they don’t like and the one they have in common. Finally there’s some speaking practice using the learned useful language via role-play activity.

Materials

Abc Anticipated Problems Solutions Aims below LP

Main Aims

  • To provide speaking fluency practice in the context of things you have in common.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide reading practice for gist.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

1. I will start the lesson by talking to Ss about the things we like and they things we don´t like. I will set the model first. What I like & What I don't like. 2. I will ask Ss to think about a thing they like and another they don't like and discuss with their peers about it in BORs. 2 minutes to complete the task. 3. OCFB - I will nominate only 2 Ss to know what they like and don't like.

Exposure (6-7 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

1. I will provide Ss with a short conversation text through a link via Chat box to introduce some Useful Language: - I really like - I like - Is OK / are OK - I don't like - I hate 2. They have a minute or 2 to read for gist. 3. After they read the conversation, together they answer a single question. 4. I will ask Ss to read the conversation again to decide what video games the people in the conversation like and don't like. I will give them 2 minutes to discuss this activity in groups. 5. On a Jamboard screen, I will ask Ss to put the video games the characters like, the ones they don't like and the one they all like in common. (I will assist students here) CCQ's --> What games they like to play? ANSWER: Half-Life 2 and Halo 3. The Legend of Zelda. Crash Bandicoot, puzzle games, Mario Party. CCQ's --> What games they don't like to play? ANSWER: horror and shooter games CCQ's --> Do they have a video game in common they like to play? ANSWER: Mario Party.

Useful Language (11-13 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

I will introduce Ss 5 Useful Language expressions from the conversation text they read and cover MAFP as fast and thorougly as possible. 1. I really like (MAFP) 2. I like (MAFP) 3. is OK/are OK (MAFP) 4. I don't like (MAFP) 5. I hate (MAFP)

Productive Task(s) (10-15 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

For this Speaking task, I will ask Ss to find out what things they have in common with their peers using the 5 expressions they learned during class. e.g. What things do you like to do? & What things you don't like to do? I really like playing the guitar OR I don't like homework. *A student say: I like blue colour/color *Another student says I like blue colour/color too.

Feedback and Error Correction (5-6 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

During the Speaking activity I will write down 5 sentences students say and help them correct them if applies.
