The teacher posts a picture of a woman, who didn't get the job, on the white board asking sts what is it about? He elicits from sts what would she do if she got the job. He elicits the "past verb after if" and "would + v1." He asks for more sentences about What the woman would do, if she got the job? ( If she got the job, she would be happy-She would travel)
The teacher posts a picture for a man in a prison. He establishes that he has got no chance of getting out. He draws a thought bubble over his head and elicit what he is thinking (if the guard fell asleep, I could get the key! If I crept across the hall, I could climb out of the window. If I escaped, I'd go straight to france). Sts are asked to think of sth unlikely that might happen to change their own lives for the better. After that, The teacher gives sts asks students to work in pairs to do ex.1 page 104. He says "In pairs, discuss the the questions a and b."
The teacher draws a picture of two people talking to each other. One of them is asking the other. What would you do if........ The teacher elicits some possible endings for the question (if you had a million dollars ? ...... If you were president? When the teacher has a number of questions, he asks students to go back and elicit some answers the person might give. The t gives instructions " work in pairs, ask each other and give answers to the questions. Students then do ex. 2, p 104. Also the teacher gives sts sentences on pieces of paper. "in groups of three match each beginning with its ending."
The teacher gives sentences that tell a chain story about a 7 years old boy called Tom Who dreams of being an astronaut. The first one starts as "if i were a grown up, I would become an astronaut." The second one "if I were an astronaut, I'd go to mars. etc. Some of the verbs in "if clause" and "would clause" are missing. Students have to fill in gaps and complete the sentences and put them in order. Concept Questions: Is it possible to go to mars ? (No) Is he really going to Mars? (No) Will he meet the aliens? (No) Why ? "because he is not going to Mars.
The teacher asks students about the use of the third conditional. (unreal situations, things that are impossible to happen). The teacher tells students what do they expect the next piece of information that completes the sentence. If I went to London, I would buy you some caviar. (but I am pretty sure I am not going) The teacher asks sts to look at the language reference at page 104. He writes two sentences on the board. One in the present simple which is real. The other is an unreal situation with if+would clauses. He asks students to recognize the two parts of the second sentence. He also asks What form of the verbs come after if (past) and after would (Would). Then he write a sentence with (if) at the beginning, then he rewrites the same sentnce with (would) at the beginning. He explains to sts that they are the same. The teacher asks sts to do Exercise 3. "Complete the unreal situation sentences then compare your answers with your partner. Once they have ex. 3 done, they wil work in groups and complete the moral dilemma in ex.4.
The teacher asks sts to do ex.5. He gives the instructions " Work in groups of 4. Each group two more sentences similar to ex.4 and swap your sentences with the other group to discuss them." Here the teacher asks each group to report back to the group that set the dilemma on their discussions and decisions.
