Procedure (34-45 minutes)
Hot seat game will be used to review some of the verbs taught in the previous lesson (argue, rely on, look for). This activity will be a logical transition to the exposure that includes these verbs as examples to present the targeted grammar
Ss will draw their attention to some sentences that introduce the difference between simple present & continuous. T elicits the differences in time and form from students. Then Ss will work in pairs to refresh their their previous knowledge about present simple/continuous by solving exercise 2.2,A p.125 in their books. Whole class Feedback is followed.
The teacher now will highlight the special case of non action verbs in present continuous. An example of state verb is shown in a PPT, then, questions on meaning & form will be directed to Ss to spot the difference.
The teacher will depend on a PPT to show some more examples of non-action verbs while eliciting why they are considered non actions from Ss and clarify the form of affirmative, negative sentences and questions. The teacher will then check the Ss' understanding by asking them to name a list of verbs as action, non action or both.
A worksheet will be handed to Ss who will work in pairs to make the correct form of some sentences in simple present & present continuous with both actions and non action verbs. Whole class feedback is followed.
Ss are divided into 2/3 teams. A student from each team will take turn to draw a picture that is dictated by their team. The members of the team are required to use the correct form of present simple and continuous while describing the picture to their classmate. Based on the Ss performance, error correction will be followed.
