Description

In this lesson students are going to learn how to use past simple sentences to talk about past completed actions through PPP in the context of their last weekend. They will finish the lesson with a conversation about their last holiday.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will start the class by talking about the way I spent the weekend. I will give them some details about it.

Exposure (5-7 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

I will ask my students to talk about the way they spent their weekend.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

I will write some of my students' sentences on the board in the correct form to draw their attention to the correct format of the TL.

Clarification (10-12 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

I will clarify the meaning of the TL by drawing a timeline on the board to help my students understand that the TL is used to talk about a completed action in the past. The form will be clarified by eliciting the format from the students, They will help me write the structure on the board by answering some CCQs about the roll of the words and the way we have changed the verbs, The pronunciation of the words in the past simple form will be focused on. (played /d/ - asked /t/ - wanted /id/)

Controlled Practice (10-12 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

The students are going to do exercise 1A on page 145 of the students book individually in 5 minutes. They will check their answers in pairs after their done in 2 minutes and then we will check the answers with the whole class.

Semi-Controlled Practice (4-5 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

I will ask my students to tell the class about where they were the previous day.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

I will ask my students to talk about their last holiday in groups of four and the things they did then. They will try to give details as much as they can. I will monitor them and feedback will be given at the end.
