TP7 - Writing
Intermediate level
Main Aims
-
To provide the practice of writing skills in writing a restaurant review.
Subsidiary Aims
-
To provide students to use descriptive language to better express their ideas and feelings
Procedure (45-55 minutes)
- Set timer on phone for 45 mins. - Share my screen with a slide of pictures of people at a restaurant, some enjoying their meal and others not. - Ask students to explain what is happening in these scenes (CCQs: so is enjoying their meal? How can you tell?)
- Move to next slide that has an example restaurant review, have Ss read it. - Put Ss into BOR in pairs to dissect the review, is it positive or negative? Identify how the review is structured (intro, main points, conclusion).
- Go to next slide that is blank and have the Ss work in BOR to brainstorm different adjectives to describe a meal in a restaurant. Tell them they will have 3 mins to write as many as they can come up with on the slide - Bring class back together and go over key adjectives that can be helpful in a review. - Go to next slide that has another blank slide for Ss to write the same about adjectives to describe a restaurant's ambiance/vibe (explain this word to the class) - Give them 3 mins in BOR to write some more adjectives. - Last slide will have a couple of connector and linking words to help a review flow smoothly that I would like to see in the Ss review.
- Explain to Ss that they will have 15 mins to write their own review on a slide in the Google Slide I will share in the chat (the one they have been using all class). - Tell Ss they will have access to the previous slides with the example and adjectives that they came up with earlier to put in their review. Give some tips to make the review for interesting and descriptive.
- Give Ss 5 mins to work in BOR to review each others review with a rubric/questions to answer. - Bring class back where I will share screen and offer some corrections of errors I saw in some Ss writing.
