PAST QUESTIONS VERB PATTERNS

Description

In this lesson, students will review and practice forming past simple positive and negative answers in the context of last weekend. The lesson starts by looking at the time referred to in the text the students have worked on previously, and thus on the tense (past simple) used in this text. The students will then autonomously find the past simple verbs in the text. I will then elicit the students' answers on how to form the past simple questions, also check they have understood the concept of the past simple for irregular verbs.We will then practise pronunciation and understanding of pronunciation forms of regular verbs . We will then work on a gap text, in which students have to fill in themselves the past simple verbs. the students will write past simple questions about the text.

Main Aims

  • To review past simple in the context of last weekend , last vacation

Subsidiary Aims

  • To practice pronunciation of past simple regular verbs, focusing on the /id/ /t/ and /d/ sound. in the context of last weekend , last vacation

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (4-8 minutes) • Getting ss to identify by themselves which tense is used in the text by writinig on the board sentences.and letting students how to come up withy the questions pattern for the past simple

. I will ask questions on what happened in the last weekend? then the will bw written on the board, to show them question, affiirmatice and negative ansers .Are these actions finished or still continuing? Is there a clear reference to a time in the past?

Scanning the text and looking for specific info of the past tense set on the grammar guide provided by the book (5-7 minutes) • analizing the grammar rules given by the text book

I will first get the students to underline the past simple forms individually. Then, as this is the second class reffering to the past , I will get the students to practice english with other students they will be looking at the past simple regular verbs,

Understanding the past simple getting the ss to understand in their own words when the past simple is used (7-10 minutes) • I will give the students the opportunity to make some questions where they can learn the use of the past simple.

I will ask them to focus on the questions of their partnerfor the moment. . I will get the students to share their answer in pairs then we willpay attention to the second part of the grammar which speaks about the future the use of verb patterns

Pronunciation Checking the students' pronunciation of past simple regular verbs and the verb pattern (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

I will then explain to the students these experessions , I will give examples to clarify this : worked /t/ ; visited /id/ ; stayed /d/. I will write the three categories on the board. I will read out loud the past simple form of the verbs I previously gave them and ask the students to repeat after me. . I will then explain that these ending sounds depend on the last letter of the infinitive form of the verbs. I will write on the board the following expressions to the students i am going to., I want to. I plan to, i am planning to , i hope to :I will ask them what all these have in common?

Setting the context of the activity (10-15 minutes) • Getting the students to use the simple past tense and the future expressions given by the book

I will first set the context of the activity which we will be working on in this stage. I will get the students to work on the activities given by the book about the past, and get them to relate to the following topic students will work on the guide lines given by the book on the students book and the workbook students will receive feedback based on the answers by the book itself
