Procedure (41-52 minutes)
T asks students if they keep pictures of important events in their lives. Why do you keep pictures? How does it make you feel when you look at pictures from the past? Show students the photo. Why might these photos have sentimental value? A wedding, throwing confetti, celebration, happy memory A group of children, fu of joy, on vacation, meeting other kids A young couple in front of their car, a gift, purchasing a new car A group of friends at college A group of friends in their early teen years A family standing outside of a home, their old home or family home
T will give the Ss instructions about the listening task Instructions: You will listen to people talking about important names, dates, and places, and you will need to write what each item is. Demo number 1, which is grandparents’ house Ss will call out the answers once the audio is finished
T will introduce students to Mia. Have a student read Mia’s life circles My favorite day is Friday (past or present) Miss Parker, my middle school teacher (past or present) March 12, 2008, when I moved abroad to Spain (past or present) Lisa, my new friend (past or present) Have students read Mia’s explanations for her life circles aloud. T will tell students they will go into breakout rooms to share their life circles and ask questions with their partners. Remind students to take notes because they will present their partners' life circles. Remember to switch pairs and take notes of useful language usage and errors.
While students collaborate in their speaking session, T will note the goods and opportunities for improvement. Look for opportunities to help students improve their fluency.
