Procedure (28-40 minutes)
By looking to the sentences in a example Ss complete the rules how to form Present Simple: positive and negative (he, she, it). On WB I write/stick sentences: Paul works in Antarctica. He watches a lot if sport on TV. She doesn't talk to him very often. He doesn't like his job very much. CCQ: Do we know Paul? (Paul works in Antarctica. Paul is an engineer).What time is it? if answer not coming- ask Is it Past?-NO. Is it Present?-YES. So it's Present Simple. POSITIVE *In the positive sentences with he/she/it we add -s or -es to the infinitive. Draw chart Subject / infinitive + -s or -es/ ....... Paul / watches / a lot of sport on TV. he / works / in Antarctica. NEGATIVE * In negative sentences with he/she/it we use DOESN'T (does not) + infinitive Draw chart Subject / auxiliary+ not/ infinitive/ ......... Alison / doesn't / talk / to him very often. Model: I am doing First sentence, second- Ss. Put each flash card to correct column. Ask Ss When do we use DON'T? - WE USE DON'T IN NEGATIVE SENTENCES with I/you/we/they we use DON'T (do not) + infinitive Do a model. I drive a car. Students work on their own and write the he/she/it forms of the verbs. Ss then check answers in pairs. PUT a 4 column chart on a WB with the headings -s, -es, -ies, irregular. Instructions: What are the he/she/it forms of these verbs. Write in 4 columns. By your own. - 2 minutes. Check answers with your partner. Ask early finishers to put card with the verb to the correct column and Check answers with the whole class. -s / -es / -ies / irregular plays / watches/ studies / has Eliciting: So what is the rules? Listen and practice the he/she/ it form of the verbs. Which verbs have the sound /ız/ at the end?- watches, finishes, studies, misses, matches. Play the recording R4.3 and ask students to repeat the verb forms. Drilling verbs in a circle
Time limited-45 seconds. Individually. Ss read text about Alison and Paul for skimming and answer the question "Where do they go for holiday?"- They go to a hot country. Just read. ICQ: Will you write?-No. How much do you have?-45 seconds.
SS read text about Alison and Paul and filling in the gaps with the correct verbs form of he/she/it. SS do ex by their own, then check answers in pairs. Whole class FB. answer key on a board. I monitor to learn what the common mistakes are and correct it with whole class.
Students work in group of three and write as many he/she/it forms of other verbs they can think of.(not from today's lesson) ICQ: Do you write plays, likes, starts?- NO. We write new words. Set a time limit of three minutes. Check the answers with the class by writing the he/she/it forms in the table on the board. The group with the most new verbs wins.
