Drilling these rules, while doing exercises. At first students do it by themselves, than check with others. If somebody makes mistake, we stop, find words, that use in Past Simple or Past Continuous and student tries to correct the mistake.
Students compare these 2 tenses and try to make the rule when and what tense do we use in the context. If they make right conclusion, they'll do the exercise on their handouts. The exercise is a text with the environmental vocabulary, where students should open the brackets on the appropriate tense. The second task is to describe the picture with new words. This is a pair work. The first student asks a question and the second - answers it.
Ask students to make a small-talk about environmental problems, answering such questions: Where would you like to live — in a big city or in the country? What are the advantages of living in the country? What is the main ecological problem in the place where you live? Do you and your friends care about ecological problems? Why? Have you ever taken part in any ecological projects at school? What would you recommend to a person who wants to improve the ecological situation in his/her hometown? Try everybody to answer these questions.
