In this lesson students are going to practice their reading skills. They'll practice reading for gist and reading for detailed information.

Main Aims

  • By the end of the lesson students will have practiced their reading skills such as reading for gist and reading for detail, using a text about the creation of Google in the context of using the Internet

Subsidiary Aims

  • To develop listening for gist when listening to instructions.
  • To develop students' vocabulary knowledge such as nouns and adjectives
  • To develop speaking fluency related to the vocabulary

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students, as well as reducing affective filter.

T will start class greeting the ss. After doing so, T will display a collage made out of images relating to search engines, she will ask ss to predict what the class will be about and elicit their answers in OC.

Pre-Reading/Listening (10 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

T will then cover the 4 words she chose so ss can understand the text better. words: - Launch - Search engine - Build - Billionaire T will use a presentation to clarify meaning (MFP) with students

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Ss will do excersise 2b from the workbook individually in which they have to match headings a-d to paragraphs 1-4. After 6 minutes, Ss will check their answers via zoom chat, they will send in their answers and teacher will give them OCFB.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (12 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Ss will do excercise 2c from the book individually in which they have to tick true sentences or write (F) and correct the wrong sentences. They will have 8 minutes. Ss will check their answers in BRs (2 minutes) before checking answers in OCFB

Post-Reading/Listening (10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Ss will "launch" their own "searching engine" that they will create and complete in small groups using the form the teacher will share with them, they will have to write down: - Name of students: - Name of search engine: - Launch date: - Choose an image for your search engine. (6 minutes) T will do OCFB with Delayed Error Correction (DEC) after Ss share in OC their search engines ideas. (4)
