Description

In this lesson SS consolidate the past simple through a written report, and practise transferring information from a questionnaire into a written text.

Materials

Abc Power point presentation
Abc Students Book (New English File Elementary)

Main Aims

  • By the end of the lesson, students will be able to write a cohesive and descriptive holiday report, incorporating relevant details, using appropriate language and structure.

Subsidiary Aims

  • SS will identify some new words and expressions from a reading text( a holiday report) like, walked around, special atmosphere, etc.

Procedure

lead in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

1- Greet my students. 1- Show some pictures to the students related to the places in the report and the photo of Alex and his girlfriend . 2- Ask the students what did they do in their holiday last year? and raise a discussion

Pre teaching vocabulary (4-6 minutes) • To help the students understand the reading text clearly

1-Elicit some words and phrases like (walk around and special atmosphere) 2-Provide the MFP for it

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through a reading text.

1- Explain what the Ss need to do. 2- Ask these ICQs: - Do they need to understand every word to find out? (Ss should say: No) - Will you ignore any difficult words to get the main idea? (Ss should say: Yes) 2- Let the Ss read Alex's questionnaire and report. 3- Send the Ss to BORs so they can answer the questions ( Which questions does Alex answer in each paragraph? 4- Check the answer with the students. 5- Ask the students which tenses did the use? ( The Ss Should say past tens)

Writing Task (11-14 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice writing

1- Tell the students that they are going to write a holiday report about their last summer holiday 2- Write four paragraphs, answer the questions 1-10 in the questionnaire to oraginse your ideas. 3- Tell the Ss that they are going to use Padlet ( I will send them the link in the chat box) 4- if some Ss can't use Padlet i will ask them to write their report in the cha box and copy it in padlet. 5- Ask this ICQs - Are you going to write about your plan for the next holiday? (Ss should say No) - Which tense should they use? (Ss should say past tens) 3- Give the students 10 minutes to finish the writing task.

Feedback (8-10 minutes) • To provide constructive guidance to help students improve their writing skills and meet the learning objectives

1-After the students finish writing I will ask them to read a report and leave a comment as a peer feedback 2- Show the Padlet to the students with the reports. 3- Check one or two good sentences and two or three common mistakes and ask the Ss Is this sentence correct? How can we correct it? 4-Tell the students that I really enjoyed my time with them and end the session.
