in this lesson the students are going to learn about possessive pronouns in the context of ownership and possession and when and where we can use them through different given examples

  • To provide clarification of differences between possessive pronouns and possessive adjectives or determiners

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I'll commence the lesson by drawing the attention of my students to the concept of ownership and the never ending desire for us to have many belongings or possessions.

Exposure (5-7 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

i will then talk about nouns and their definition, having done so i will write some nouns on the board and ask my students to give sentences that indicate a relation of belonging or possession with the above mentioned nouns

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

i will then apply possessive pronouns to the same sentences that the students have given, and will replace the noun by a possessive pronoun so as to emphasize ownership and a sense of belonging.

Clarification (5-8 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

I will then use possessive pronouns with questions containing" whose" and try to further clarify the purpose or functionality of possessive pronouns which is to emphasize ownership or possession or rather refer to the relation of belonging. i will also state some uncommon exceptions about possessive pronouns

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

after the clarification stage, i will ask my students to open their books on pg 141, and have them do exercise a. after having done so we will check the answers with the whole class.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

for this stage, I'll have the students ask each other questions using possessive pronouns
