Description

In this lesson students will learn how to use for and since in the present perfect tense. It will start with some examples of myself, writing two forms of right and wrong sentences and drawing a timeline. then ask students to make some examples about themselves. write the correct forms for them. furthermore, start the clarification and teach the meaning and form of grammar with CCQ. give them some examples and ask them to give me some. Then go to grammar bank and work on page 143 part 9B. Receive and give feedback. finally, in pairs, they talk about their experience and use the grammar.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of present perfect since and for in the context of Fear.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of Fear.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (1-2 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will start the class by telling my students about I’m very, very scared of spiders.I've had it since I was about twelve.The TL is used in the sentences that I make.

Exposure (2-3 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

In this stage I will ask my students to talk about Do you have any phobias?What kind of phobia do you have?How long have you had this phobia?.They may not use the correct form of the verb. I want to use their sentences to highlight the TL.

Highlighting (2-3 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

I will write one or two of the sentences that my students made in the correct form on the board to draw their attention to the TL.

Clarification (5-6 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

I will draw a timeline on the board and ask the students if the sentences are related to the past, present, or future. I will put the point on the timeline. Is the action finished or not? (CCQs) - I will elicit the form from the students to help them form the sentences correctly and the correct pronunciation of the verbs will be drilled in the class as well.

Controlled Practice (4-8 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

The students are going to do exercise 9B on page 142 in 4 minutes individually and then they will have 2 minutes to check their answers in pairs. After that, the answers will be checked with the whole class.

Free Practice (5-8 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

The students are going to have a conversation about What have you done or will you do to eliminate these phobias? in groups of 4 in 10 to 15 minutes. They will be monitored and feedback will be given at the end if needed.
