Description

Students will learn how to use certain expressions related to describing the location of places. Also, there will be focus on the use of superlatives and giving information relevant to that location.

  • To provide accuracy in the context of in the context of what to do in places of interest

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-8 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T will introduce a quiz about New Zealand. Ss will listen to an audio once and try to answer questions in a multiple-choice setting on Google Forms. The class will give answers individually and the T will confirm answers

Exposure (7-9 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

T will show slides that give an outline of the TL for today's class. MFP will be given on the following phrases: Asking about places: Where is...?/Why is it important? Explaining where places are/why they are important? It is in the North/South/East/West. It is on the East/West coast It's the highest/biggest... It's a good place for... Statements will have the TL covered and T will try to elicit answers from Ss, in addition to using photos. OCFB is to be given at the end of the section. CCQS: Is an island on or off the mainland? Should we ask which or why is it so important?

Productive Task 1 (10-12 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

T shows a slide containing a picture of the British Isles, including place names and islands. Ss take turns to ask questions/give answers related to places marked on the map. The task will be done in pairs in Breakout rooms. T will monitor progress in rooms.

Productive Task 2 (10-12 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Ss will be shown a map of 'Pelikan City' that contains various places of interest, along with street names. Ss will have more opportunities to practice the final two phrases from the TL in more detail. Ss will work with a different partner in Breakout rooms. T will monitor progress in the breakout rooms.

Feedback and Error Correction (7-9 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

T will write production mistakes on the board and invite Ss to make error corrections. T will only provide correct answers if Ss are unable.
