Subsidiary Aims

Procedure (34-45 minutes)
- T asks students what their ideal partner looks like - T demos for students with picture of a celebrity - S discuss their answers as a group
T will use Google Slides to cover the MFP of the following lexis: 1) He/she is well-dressed, 2) he/she has messy hair, 3) he/she looks like he/she is in his/her twenties, 4) he/she has dark/fair hair ⦿ Meaning: providing definition with written & visual example ⦿ Form: providing lexis type (adjective), and sentence examples to show how it is (and is not) used. T will have students choose the incorrect/correct sentences for CCQs of form and meaning ⦿ Pronunciation: T will do choral reading with students during example sentences, and show them where the stresses are, and what the sounds are via visual representation ⦿ Students will perform (as a class) an activity in which they organize the pictures of people to their appropriate categories (messy hair, dark/fair hair, etc.) **ICQs: "Are we matching the person to their description?" (Yes) **CCQs will be correct/incorrect sentence identification and matching **All example sentences and visuals are in context of describing people
S will describe a person they know, using at least 3 of the TL they've learned ⦿ T will demo for students by using a picture of someone in their life and describe them verbally, but will also have the sentence typed in the slide ⦿ S will take 1 minute to pick someone, then describe them to their partner or group for 5 minutes ⦿ If time permits, students will switch partners/group members ⦿ T will vacillate between Breakout Rooms to collect DEC feedback ICQs - Who are you describing? (Someone we know) - How many minutes do you have? (5) - How many of the new phrases are you going to use? (At least 3)
S in pairs will play a guessing game, in which partner #1 chooses one out of ten possible people in a slideshow slide, while partner #2 tries to guess who it is by using all of the TL questions (e.g. "Does he/she have dark hair?") ⦿ T demos with Tiffany or Richard, then tells students to take a screenshot of the slideshow slide containing all 10 of the people ⦿ S pair up in Breakout Rooms and practice the activity ⦿ T vacillates between Breakout Rooms to collect DEC feedback ICQs - Who are you picking in the slide? (Anyone) - Is your partner trying to guess who it is? (Yes) - Are you using all of your new phrases or some of them? (All) - How many minutes do you have? (7)
Conduct DEC as a class from productive activities 1-3
